Axion Emissivity from the Conversion of a Neutron Star into a Strange Star
نویسنده
چکیده
The conversion of neutron matter into strange matter in a neutron star occurs through the non-leptonic weak-interaction process. We study the energy loss of the neutron star by the emission of axions in that process. Owing to that process, the neutron star will liberate the energy which can in no way be negligible as an axion burst. PACS numbers : 14.80.Mz, 95.30.Cq, 97.60.Jd

Rigidly Rotating Strange Quark Star
The possibility of the existence of quark matter dates back to early seventies. Bodmer remarked that matter consisting of deconfined up, down and strange quarks could be the absolute ground state of matter at zero pressure and temperature. If this is true then objects made of such matter, so-called ”strange star”, could exist. There are several proposed mechanisms for formation of quark stars. ...
متن کاملPhase Transition of Newborn Neutron Stars as a Link of Supernova/Gamma-Ray Burst Connection
We here present a natural explanation of the puzzling connection between supernova and gamma-ray burst. An asymmetric supernova explosion produces a mildly relativistic jet and leaves a preferred baryon-free funnel for the fireball formed few days later by the conversion of the newborn neutron star to a strange star, or/and from the differentially rotating strange star. The fireball can be acce...
متن کاملThe axion–photon interaction and gamma ray signals of dark matter
We explore two scenarios where the axion-photon interaction could induce additional astrophysical gamma ray signals for the dark matter. In the first scenario, dark compact objects made of axions, named axion stars, could collide with neutron stars. The whole energy of the axion star can be dissipated in the magnetized conducting medium of the neutron star generating gamma rays. The second scen...
متن کاملLow-mass Normal-matter Atmospheres of Strange Stars and Their Radiation
The quark surface of a strange star has a very low emissivity for X-ray photons. I find that a small amount of normal matter at the quark surface with temperature in the range 107 ∼TS ≪ mc 2/k ≃ 6 × 109 K is enough to produce X-rays with high luminosity, LX ≃ 10 32 − 10(∆M/10M⊙) 2 erg s−1. For the total atmosphere mass ∆M ∼ (10−20 − 10)M⊙, this luminosity may be as high as the Eddington limit. ...
متن کاملA pr 1 99 8 A Strange Star Model for Pulsars
It is suggested in this paper that the ‘bare’ strange star might be not bare, and there could be a magnetosphere around it. As a strange star might be an intensely magnetized rotator, the induced unipolar electric field would be large enough to construct a magnetosphere around the strange matter core. This kind of magnetosphere is very similar to that of the rotating magnetized neutron stars di...
